Community Works Design Group is a full-service landscape architecture firm with a wide range of in-house capabilities. While the breadth of skills under the CWDG roof is comparable to that of much larger firms, we intentionally maintain maximum staffing at 14 so that we can personally manage all projects. We believe in a deep personal commitment and involvement with your team on an ongoing basis throughout the life of the project.
Our Story
The year was 1985. As “Back to the Future” played on the big screen, up-and-coming Landscape Architect by the name of Tim Maloney saw his own vision for a better way to bring Landscape Architectural services to agencies and private clients alike. Tim teamed up with fellow Landscape Architects, Mike and Pam Elliott to form Elliott/Maloney Landscape Architecture.
Five short years later, in 1990, Tim stretched his wings and ventured off to open the doors to T.I. Maloney, Inc. Tim realized over time that the company name did not match the vision of a client-centered firm, so in 1998, the firm was rebranded as Community Works Design Group, also known by the abbreviation, CWDG.
Now celebrating our 37th year of providing professional services throughout California and beyond, CWDG continues to look toward the future. Tim is joined at the helm by President, Scott Rice, as Tim begins the process of retirement and learning how to “not” work. Scott is in his 19th year with the firm.
Our Team
Community Works Design Group uses a symbiotic organizational structure maximizing on our teams’ wide variety of experience, expertise and passions to bring our client’s vision to life in the most effective, efficient and transparent way possible. Our team features Scott Rice, President and Licensed Landscape Architect and Certified Access Specialist Professional as well as our four Directors. Each Director plays to their strengths, collaborating on each and every project along with our team of dedicated support staff. Our unique team structure enables CWDG to provide our clients with forward thinking, maintenance minded strategic solutions to all of our design projects.
Our team has spent the last 35+ years building relationships with some of the best subconsultant teams in California, providing clients with Prime Consulting for major public works, municipal and other fantastic projects.
